A good psychologist can make a huge contribution to the decisions about keeping children safe.

An excellent, well-resourced, well-trained psychologist in an outstanding team will change the course of a child’s life.

Orchard House is a service made up of psychologists and social workers, working closely as a team dedicated to offering help, safety, assessment and therapy to families involved in care proceedings where children have been deemed to be at risk of harm. We are a national centre of excellence, taking in families from all over the UK, and are rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted. Our reputation with the Family Courts is exceptional.

Our committed and innovative team is expanding and we are looking for HCPC registered practitioner psychologists (forensic, clinical, counselling) with a special interest in attachment theory and/or systemic practice to help meet the demand for our work. To thrive in this role, you will need to be resilient, reflective, child-centred and articulate. You need to be able to manage challenging and difficult situations, write well, have a strong sense of personal/professional integrity and excellent engagement skills. Experience in Court work is desirable but not essential.

Orchard House is primarily a residential centre as well as assessing families in the community and there is a managed stream of referrals for assessment. We are dedicated to the welfare and continuing development of our staff team as well as the families we serve, and you will be offered intensive support, highly specialist supervision and ongoing training (including in giving evidence) to build and grow your skills and competencies as an assessing psychologist. You will be provided with outstanding admin and technical/IT support so that you are free to focus on your clinical priorities. We are committed to providing up to date and relevant resources, including q-interactive WAIS kits and Q-global psychometric scoring and interpretation. There is huge scope for service development and we would support you using your skills and interests to further benefit children and families, particularly promotion of secure attachment in the peri-natal period. We also support engagement in research to help guide decision making and effective therapies and interventions.
